boMake Rural Projects - our sister NGO

Making a sustainable impact in Eswatini through equitable social and economic community development projects, with Gone Rural artisans at the heart.

When Jenny Thorne founded Gone Rural in 1992 she had a much larger vision which included creating change on a community level. Jenny passed away in 2003, but her vision of community change was realised in 2006 when boMake Rural Projects was founded.

boMake (meaning women in siSwati) is a community-led non-profit organisation working with the women artisans of Gone Rural. With the aim of empowering women to build resilient families, boMake work tirelessly to identify needs and develop life changing Education, Health and Sustainable Livelihoods programmes.

To date boMake has achieved some exceptional results, which has impacted the lives of more than 20,000 community members.

To Gone Rural, boMake is our sister. Many things have changed over the years but one thing remains the same and that is the simple fact that our artisans are the heartbeat of the organisation.
